Granville Island Engagement Portraits – Pamela and Toby

It’s perfectly normal to feel a little (or a lot!) awkward your first time being photographed by a professional photographer – but that was not the case with Pamela and Toby! From the start, they were relaxed, bubbly, and having fun – smiles come naturally and easily to these two! No matter that they were in a (very) public place with a camera on them at all times – nothing stopped Pamela and Toby from laughing and giggling their way through our session. The result? Some great images that show their true personalities and the love they have for each other. Awww….

Coal Harbour Engagement Portraits – Connie and Patrick

I met up with Connie and Patrick at the beautiful Coal Harbour, one of my favourite places for photos! If you want mountain and water views combined with glittery glass architecture, you can find it all at this location – plus some cool art installations that change throughout the year. I love that my clients tend to be easy-going and fun-loving, and Connie and Patrick fit this profile perfectly! I really enjoyed working with them at their engagement session, and will share photos from their August wedding very soon!

Kristine and Tom – Playland Engagement Photos

I have always wanted to do a Playland engagement session, and Tom and Kristine were game to take me up on the idea! This was probably the most challenging engagement session I have ever done – dealing with elements such as crowds, motion, and a paralyzing fear of heights (that would be me!), would put anyone to the test! But working together, I think we got some awesome shots (and I’m so glad I didn’t freak out [too much] on the ferris wheel). Kristine and Tom of course had no fear, and gladly went on the swings while I stayed safely on the ground – it was the better angle for photos anyway. I was really pleased to finally get a chance to do a session at this unique location, so thanks to Kristine and Tom – we’re looking forward to your big day this Saturday!

Cheryl and Darren – Granville Island Engagement Photo Session

Even though we won’t be shooting Cheryl and Darren’s wedding until June, it feels like we’ve known them forever! That probably has to do with the fact that Cheryl was in Kathy and Dave’s wedding party, whose wedding we shot in 2007, and they are also friends with Stephanie and Mike, whose wedding we shot in 2008. And there are probably a whole bunch of other connections I’m missing – honestly so many of our clients know each other that it gets pretty confusing – think 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon times 10! But it’s actually really, really cool to see familiar faces at different weddings; we love reconnecting with guests, family, and friends from weddings past, and of course we are more than flattered to be referred so many times over.

Now on to Cheryl and Darren – I had a great shoot with them, wandering around Granville Island, finding some new and exciting places to photograph in. Even though these two have very serious professions (doctor and engineer), they know how to have fun – and were even willing to show me their best “Blue Steel” (not shown to protect innocent). We’re looking forward to their big day in June, and seeing lots of our past clients again!

Janet and Karsten – Granville Island Engagement Photo Session

The first time we tried to do Janet and Karsten’s engagement session, we woke up to a freak snowstorm (never had that happen before)! Great for photos in a park, but maybe not so much for a more industrial landscape such as Granville Island. Needless to say, we rescheduled – and we were not disappointed – we got a perfectly beautiful sunny day! Granville Island is an extra special spot to Janet and Karsten, as they first met at the Backstage Lounge. I had a great time photographing them and their happy, (and adorable) dog Napa. We even found a really cool spot with these amazing shadows cast by a tree – I love just stumbling upon neat stuff like that, it really fires up the inspiration! Thanks to Janet and Karsten for a great session – we’re looking forward to your big day in May! (wow, that rhymes…)
