Temple Sholom and Eagle Creek Golf Club Wedding – Amy and Arthur

Sharing a quirky sense of humor and love of Ultimate Frisbee, it’s easy to see why Amy and Arthur work so well together. When I first met them, they told me all about their “Chewish” wedding (combination Chinese and Jewish wedding) – I knew at that moment that this would be a fun wedding to photograph. The Jewish ceremony was held at Temple Sholom, followed by a photo session at Granville Island and then on to the Trade and Convention Centre. It was here that I finally photographed the infamous Olympic cauldron for the first time, with Amy and Arthur cuddling in front of it. I must say, the architecture of this sculpture makes for some interesting images! The reception was held at the lovely Eagle Creek Golf Club on Burnaby Mountain, and Amy and Arthur did a beautiful job decorating the venue in their theme colour of crimson burgundy. Of course, no Jewish wedding is complete without dancing the hora, and while their stay on the chairs was short (Amy looked terrified!) the guests enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you to Amy and Arthur for having me with you on your special day!

Cheryl and Darren – Granville Island Engagement Photo Session

Even though we won’t be shooting Cheryl and Darren’s wedding until June, it feels like we’ve known them forever! That probably has to do with the fact that Cheryl was in Kathy and Dave’s wedding party, whose wedding we shot in 2007, and they are also friends with Stephanie and Mike, whose wedding we shot in 2008. And there are probably a whole bunch of other connections I’m missing – honestly so many of our clients know each other that it gets pretty confusing – think 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon times 10! But it’s actually really, really cool to see familiar faces at different weddings; we love reconnecting with guests, family, and friends from weddings past, and of course we are more than flattered to be referred so many times over.

Now on to Cheryl and Darren – I had a great shoot with them, wandering around Granville Island, finding some new and exciting places to photograph in. Even though these two have very serious professions (doctor and engineer), they know how to have fun – and were even willing to show me their best “Blue Steel” (not shown to protect innocent). We’re looking forward to their big day in June, and seeing lots of our past clients again!

Janet and Karsten – Granville Island Engagement Photo Session

The first time we tried to do Janet and Karsten’s engagement session, we woke up to a freak snowstorm (never had that happen before)! Great for photos in a park, but maybe not so much for a more industrial landscape such as Granville Island. Needless to say, we rescheduled – and we were not disappointed – we got a perfectly beautiful sunny day! Granville Island is an extra special spot to Janet and Karsten, as they first met at the Backstage Lounge. I had a great time photographing them and their happy, (and adorable) dog Napa. We even found a really cool spot with these amazing shadows cast by a tree – I love just stumbling upon neat stuff like that, it really fires up the inspiration! Thanks to Janet and Karsten for a great session – we’re looking forward to your big day in May! (wow, that rhymes…)
