Granville Island Engagement Portraits – Craig and Leigh

The sweet couple of Craig and Leigh are having their wedding in Leigh’s hometown in Tennessee, so they thought it fitting to do an engagement session in Craig’s hometown, Vancouver. On a blustery winter day we headed down to Granville Island, an iconic landmark which would beautifully showcase Vancouver to Leigh’s family back in Tennessee. I’ve shot around Granvillle Island many times, but each time I still manage to find new spots, and Craig and Leigh’s session was no exception – it was neat to explore this familiar landscape through the eyes of Leigh, who had never visited Granville Island before. I had a great time photographing this lovely couple, and wish them all the best in their life together in Tennessee!

Richmond Couples Portraits – Raman and Jazz

It had been a few years since Raman and Jazz got married, and they thought it was about time to get a new, updated couples portrait. In fact, Raman and Jazz want to do one for every season of the year – what a great idea! This particular session was for fall, and we went to Minoru Park to check out the golds and reds of autumn. I loved the red sweaters Raman and Jazz wore for their session – they really popped in the photos and went great with the fall colours! I can’t wait to see them both again in the spring – maybe they’ll wear pink to match the cherry blossoms?

UBC Couples Portraits – Jennifer and Wesley

Jennifer and Wesley contacted me with a great idea – they hadn’t had any professional photos done since their wedding several years ago, and with a baby soon on the way, thought it was the perfect opportunity to do a couples session! Plus, it was fall, and the colours were at their most spectacular – particularly around UBC, where we went for their session. Strangely enough, I thought I had never met either Jennifer or Wesley before, but upon meeting them for their session, I instantly recognized Wesley! We had gone to high school together and always had lockers close to each other (due to our last names being in close proximity alphabetically) – it was so neat to see him again, and to meet the lovely Jennifer! We had a wonderful time strolling around UBC and seemed to find more beautiful photo spots at every turn. Thanks to Jennifer and Wesley for having me – you make a beautiful couple!

Steveston Engagement Portraits – Charissa and Dustin

We had the most gorgeous fall day for Charissa and Dustin’s engagement session, at one of my favourite locations, Steveston Village. Charissa had carefully scouted out the most colourful trees in advance of our session, so we bee-lined it for the most bold red and gold leaves, as well as a walk around the village. New in the Steveston area is a funky red sculpture, added to Garry Point thanks to the 2010 Olympics. While it was a challenge climbing on and off the slippery creation, Charissa and Dustin were champs and the result is a very unique and fun image. I’m looking forward to creating more beautiful images for these two on their big day in May!

Len and Albie – Couples Portrait Session

Len and Albie are two of the nicest people you could ever meet, and it was my pleasure to photograph them on a beautiful November day. Len is our realtor (his full name is Len Bigland, in case you’re looking for a great realtor!) and he was so helpful (and patient!) throughout our very long home search. Len has always been so kind and caring to us, and Albie is the perfect compliment to him as she is just as lovely! I enjoyed photographing them immensely, especially witnessing the warm, loving looks they constantly gave each other, and the spontaneous laughter they shared together. When I asked them when the last time was that they had professional photos of themselves, they replied “At our wedding!” This made me even happier that I was able to record this time in their relationship, and create some beautiful, natural images of Len and Albie just enjoying life and each other!

Anjali – Child Portrait Session

Beautiful little Anjali was the perfect subject for a photo shoot – just look at those amazing big brown eyes! Anjali is not quite two yet, and though that age can be notoriously tricky to work with, I have to say Anjali was a dream. All she wanted to do was run around the park, cuddle her stuffed animals, and munch on the occasional Cheerio – this is how I love to photograph children – letting them do what kids do and thus capturing their true nature. This portrait session was made extra-special in that Anjali’s parents are Ian and Jocelyn, whose wedding we photographed back in 2006. It was so great to see them again, and to meet the new addition to their family. I love that sense of continuity that comes with my job – photographing people at one life-stage, then following them through to the next one, and so on – truly rewarding! Thanks to Ian, Jocelyn, and Anjali – I had a wonderful time with all of you!

Kristine and Tom – Playland Engagement Photos

I have always wanted to do a Playland engagement session, and Tom and Kristine were game to take me up on the idea! This was probably the most challenging engagement session I have ever done – dealing with elements such as crowds, motion, and a paralyzing fear of heights (that would be me!), would put anyone to the test! But working together, I think we got some awesome shots (and I’m so glad I didn’t freak out [too much] on the ferris wheel). Kristine and Tom of course had no fear, and gladly went on the swings while I stayed safely on the ground – it was the better angle for photos anyway. I was really pleased to finally get a chance to do a session at this unique location, so thanks to Kristine and Tom – we’re looking forward to your big day this Saturday!

Zimoch Sisters’ Vancouver Family Portraits

Laura and Jen wanted to give their parents and grandmas something unique and different for Christmas, and thought a sisters’ portrait session would be perfect! I met with them late in the fall up in Steveston, and we got a beautiful day which allowed me to take advantage of the warm winter sun. In fact, the great thing about shooting at this time of year is that you get a few extras hours of “magic” light, the time when the sun is low in sky and everything looks warm and golden – love that! I’ve known Laura for a long time, as she is one of my sister’s dearest friends. It was so fun to photograph her and sister Jen, as they have a bit of a cat-and-dog relationship but love each other very much nonetheless! I recently talked to Laura, and her parents and grandmas were thrilled with their portrait session gifts – thanks to Laura and Jen for giving me the opportunity to create those memorable and beautiful images!

Ella’s Vancouver Baby Portraits

I truly do love it when our wedding clients come back, maybe a year or two later, with new additions to their family! Alison and Rod were one of our most memorable weddings because of the beautiful snow that began to fall just as they exited the charming heritage church in which they got married, and because it was Christmas time and the golf club was all decorated, and because Alison and Rod are just such awesome people, and because… well, you get the idea! They now have little Ella, who is just precious and so photogenic with her big blue eyes and cute little blond curls. We headed out to Garden City Park for the fall colours and also discovered that a very fun playground had just finished construction – and happened to be very photographically inspiring! I had a great time seeing Alison and Rod again and meeting Ella – thanks to all of you for a great photo session!
