Mozart Bakery – Wedding Cakes and Deliciousness!

I first saw Estelle’s amazing wedding cakes at the Savvy Bride Show, where we were both in the “Fire” themed room. I thought it would be great to connect with her further, so I offered to come by Mozart Bakery and do some head shots for her and her assistant Michelle. Check out her website – not only does she do fabulous and unique wedding cakes, but she also does corporate work and has a lovely little cafe inside the bakery in Langley!*Just an additional note – Estelle’s work was recently featured in the online magazine, Bakers Journal – and my photo was on the cover! “Veil” Wedding Event – Thank You!

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who attended “Veil” at the Terminal City Club on Sunday, January 31. I had a great time meeting new clients and of course chatting with fellow vendors! A very special thanks to Kathy Marliss of Marliss Productions who organized this event along with Tanya Peters of Milestone Events. And of course another special thank you to Terminal City Club for hosting this fabulous event! Here’s a list of the some of the vendors who participated and some photos of their amazing work:

Kristina and Chris’ Maple Ridge Wedding – October 10, 2009

What a way to end the 2009 wedding season! Kristina and Chris had a beautiful, very emotionally-charged wedding day – these two are so deeply in love and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many happy tears shed! During the ceremony, the receiving line, the speeches, and the first dance, Kristina and Chris wore their emotions on their sleeves – I especially love the photos during the ceremony, with Kristina’s mom giving her away, and all the “I love you” looks between Kristina and Chris. On top of all the joy and love, we had a beautiful sunny fall day and thus the opportunity to visit some spectacular photo locations. I love the incredible mountain views unique to Maple Ridge, and I was happy to capture these vistas with the added beauty of a bride and groom. We travelled around Maple Ridge to the museum, a neatly kept little brick heritage building, and took some fun shots with the nearby vintage caboose as well. The evening was full of heartfelt speeches, lots of laughter, and even an ice cream wedding cake! Thank you to Kristina and Chris for having us with you on such a beautiful day – it was an honour to share it with you!

Terminal City Club – Downtown Vancouver – Fabulous service, amazing food, and a beautiful venue in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Recently remodeled, the club looks fantastic in warm, neutral tones that give the rooms a old-world, yet modern feeling. The buffet is truly delicious – the variety of food and the presentation is second to none. Guests can enjoy cocktails out on the balcony or inside either of the spacious ballrooms. There are great photo opportunities inside the club and in the many areas outside as well.

Brock House – Jericho Beach, Vancouver – If you’re looking for a more heritage-style, classic venue, then Brock House is the place. This turn-of-the-century mansion sits right on Jericho Beach, and the ocean and mountain views are second to none. You can have your ceremony on the lawn overlooking the water, then carry on to your reception in a luxury tent bordering the home. This is truly a unique venue and an experience your guests will never forget! The food is also excellent, with a wide variety of options and choices. Photo opportunities abound on the property and along beautiful Jericho Beach and Park.

Janet and Karsten’s Beach House Wedding – May 9, 2009 – Vancouver Wedding Photographer

What a beautiful day and a beautiful venue – and a beautiful couple too of course! Janet and Karsten had a perfect May day for their wedding, with the ceremony taking place at St. Francis in the Wood, and the reception taking place at the Beach House in West Vancouver. Janet and Karsten elected to have a small, intimate wedding, with about 50 friends and family in attendance. It was the perfect number of guests for the intimate setting on the second floor Beach House patio, overlooking Burrard Inlet all the way to Stanley Park and the Lion’s Gate Bridge – truly a spectacular view! As the sun set, guests enjoyed a fabulous four-course meal, entertaining speeches, and a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Janet and Karsten even brought along some sparklers for a fun shot at the end of the night – a tricky image to pull off, but well worth the effort (and thanks to the maid of honour and best man for whirling those things around over and over while I experimented to get the perfect shot!)

Finding a Vancouver Wedding Photographer

I wrote this little article a while back, and I thought I would post it here as someone out there might find it helpful!

There are so many resources pointing you to so many photographers – it can be a bit overwhelming! How do you look at them all and decide who to go with?

After consulting magazines, online directories, friends and family, and other resources, start checking out the websites of various Vancouver wedding photographers online. You’ll soon get a sense of the many photography styles being presented, and it won’t be long before you’ll know exactly what kind of photos you’d like for your big day.

You’ll probably find a few photographers whose work you love – contact them to find out if your day is available and then set up a meeting. Nothing is better than a face-to-face conversation to determine if the photographer is right for you! Remember, you’ll spend many hours with this person on your wedding day, so a personality match is a must! You’ll also get a chance to see the products they offer first-hand – some will offer wedding albums, prints, framing and more – some will offer photography services only. So take a close look at the products available, as this can also be an important factor when choosing your wedding photographer.

During your meetings with photographers, there are a few questions you might want to ask:

-What is your style and approach to wedding photography?
-Do you have some good locations to suggest for my wedding day?
-How long have you been a photographer?
-Can I see a full wedding (not just an album)?
-Do you bring back-up equipment?
-What is included in your packages?

Ultimately it’s important to choose your wedding photographer based on their work and personality; if you connect with both, then you’ve found your match!

Janice and Kurt’s UBC Boathouse and Kirin Wedding

What a sweet couple and a sweet day! Janice and Kurt are just perfect together – they have this love between them that is quiet but joyful, often communicated in those subtle, “I-think-you’re-wonderful” glances with each other. We had a fabulous time with them and their families and friends, who brought their support and a great feeling of togetherness to the day. After the beautiful ceremony at UBC Boathouse, it was off to various locations around Richmond for the bridal party photo session. They were all quite the troopers, as we dragged them over field, sand, and concrete, all in the name of photography! A tea ceremony was followed by the reception at Kirin Seafood Restaurant in Richmond – I must say that I very much enjoyed the decor in this Kirin, and Janice’s addition of the cute kermit mum centrepieces went brilliantly with the room. The reception was filled with a lot of fun and games, some too saucy to post here! Ever heard of the “Egg Game?” ‘Nuff said! Adding to the entertainment were the guests, who were required to sing a song with the word “love” in it to get the couple to kiss – good times! Thanks to Janice and Kurt for having us document your wonderful day!

Ley and Len’s Queen Elizabeth Park and Richmond Country Club Wedding

Ley and Len are a wonderfully sweet and sincere couple, and it was a pleasure to share their beautiful day with them. Their ceremony was held at the always lovely Celebration Pavilion at Queen Elizabeth Park, with many family and friends in attendance to show their support. After photos with the family, it was off to Locarno Beach for some windy photo fun (gosh I love long veils and wind!) and then a nearby heritage site, with a final stop at Richmond City Hall. Ley and Len both looked amazing in their wedding attire, and their wedding party looked equally fabulous – I loved the colour scheme of black, silver, and red – it came together particularly well with the bridesmaids’ ensembles. The reception was held at one my favourite venues, Richmond Golf and Country Club, with the very cool decor conceived by Ley and Len and then created by friends and family. After an evening of emotional speeches (and a very, very funny video!), it was time to party – and wow, do these folks know how to get down! In fact we were amazed, impressed, and well – blown away – by an impromptu hip-hop dance performance by Ley’s brother, Marvin, and Len’s sister, Lana – definitely one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen at a wedding! The photo doesn’t quite do it justice, but let me say these two were burning up the dance floor! Ley and Len also spent some time grooving with a few moves of their own, and in fact performed their own little dance routine earlier in the evening. Ley and Len, it was a fun and fantastic day – thank you!

Jessie and Jo’s Cecil Green and Sun Sui Wah Wedding

Jessie and Jo had one of those epic days – you know, the ones that start early in the morning and finish 14 hours later! A long day indeed, but a very fun one too! We started with coverage of the groom games (a.k.a “groom torture”) where Jessie’s friends and bridesmaids made Jo and his guys do all kinds of crazy things – let’s just say there was a bucket of ice, some whipped cream, and even a little bit of karaoke! Next it was off to two tea ceremonies, and then the wedding ceremony at the beautiful Cecil Green. We followed it up with a a photo session around Cecil Green, Iona Beach, and Richmond City Hall. Now let me say that I have shot at Iona a lot, and it has always been a great spot. However, on this particular day at this particular time, it seemed that every mosquito in the world had gathered at Iona and was quietly waiting for our unsuspecting bridal party to arrive. Needless to say, our photo time at Iona was short! But I have to give major credit to Jessie, who, in her strapless bridal gown, did not have the barrier of Jo’s tux and took more than her fair share of bites – fortunately, after seeing the photos she told me it was worth it! (phew…) All throughout the day, Jo always had his arm around Jessie or was ready with a big smile in her direction – he absolutely adores her, and it’s clear that the feeling is mutual! The day concluded with a lovely reception at Sun Sui Wah Restaurant – thanks to Jessie and Jo for having us with you!
